Ross Video announces that Chris Lennon has joined the company in the newly created position of Director, Standards Strategy, where he’s working directly with Ross CTO Troy English and managing the company’s activities in global standards and trade bodies.

Lennon, who currently resides in the U.S. is Canadian-born and spent several years working at CHCH-TV in Ontario before moving to the U.S. to join a small company called Enterprise Systems Group, which eventually became part of Harris Corporation, where he became CTO Group Lead.

Lennon has held a variety of leadership positions in the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), including Standards Director, Local Section Manager, Technology Committee Chair, and others. He is a SMPTE Fellow and recipient of SMPTE’s 2008 Citation. He also serves as Executive Director of the Open Services Alliance (OSA), a global industry organization focused on interoperability among microservice oriented media systems. The OSA produced the media industry’s first microservices standards, working closely with SMPTE, in 2020, and continues to lead the way in this rapidly evolving area.

A prolific writer, Lennon has produced white papers, trade publication and technical journal articles, and has also contributed to the two most recent editions of the industry “bible,” the NAB Engineering Handbook. In addition, he recently partnered with Clyde Smith to co-author a brand new book called “The Media Workflow Puzzle,” providing a comprehensive look at the entire media workflow from start to finish.

“I’m delighted to be joining Ross – one of the most vibrant and dynamic companies in live production,” Lennon says. “Ross has always prided itself on innovation and on influencing industry standards for the benefit for everyone. This industry-first approach has brought amazing success, and I’m looking forward to working with the team and our trade partners to define the next generation of industry standards.”

English adds, “Chris is a highly respected industry figure who has spent much of his career helping to shape this industry’s technical landscape. Ross has always tried to steer a pragmatic course between what’s best for us, the industry and our customers, and I know Chris will play a valuable role in helping us maintain that balance.”
