Meyer Sound has announced an expanded presence at CFX 2022, with a complete family of line array and point source worship sound solutions on hand for private auditions in a large demo room (A202) at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas. Demo sessions can be scheduled in advance on Eventbrite at this link, with sessions open from 8 AM on Tuesday, October 25 through 6 PM on Wednesday, October 26.
“Following a couple of years of uncertainty, the worship market is again healthy and growing, and we are responding with an expanded presence at CFX this year,” says Kent Margraves, Meyer Sound sales manager, Midwest, and long-time FOH engineer at Elevation Church. “We will be giving worship sound professionals a unique opportunity to audition and compare four different solutions – two line array and two point-source – that can be scaled from a classroom or intimate café up to a 3,000-seat worship auditorium.”
The demo room will be set up with four “power couples” – full-range loudspeakers with companion low-frequency systems – ready for the audition sessions. Each system will be set up as a stereo pair. Session registrants can choose their preferred source content from a list of musical selections that will be familiar to most worship sound professionals.
An ideal solution for larger worship auditoriums, the LEOPARD compact line array loudspeaker will be configured with the 900-LFC low-frequency control element. Lightweight and versatile, LEOPARD delivers exceptional phase coherence, consistent coverage, and extremely low distortion. LEOPARD is available with either 110-degree or 80-degree horizontal patterns for tailoring coverage to room layout and throw distance. New, ultra-efficient Class D amplifiers supply ample headroom, increase operating efficiency and reduce system weight. The complementary 900-LFC low-frequency control element extends powerful, musical low frequencies to 35 Hz using a single 18-inch transducer powered by a 3100-watt Class D amplifier.
The discreet LINA very compact line array loudspeaker brings the characteristic linear performance of Meyer Sound’s LEO Family to smaller worship spaces. LINA delivers exceptional high-frequency headroom and has earned distinction in worship applications for its superior intelligibility and extremely low distortion. At the CFX demo, the dual 4-high LINA arrays will each be coupled to two 750-LFC low-frequency control elements, extending tight bass response to 36 Hz.
With the ULTRA-X40, Meyer Sound has introduced a new generation of lightweight, versatile, powerful, and extraordinarily efficient point source loudspeakers. Based on the proven technology of the LEO Family line arrays, ULTRA-X40 incorporates two 8-inch cone drivers and a 3-inch diaphragm compression driver in a concentric configuration with a rotatable Constant-Q HF horn. Two horn dispersion patterns are available: 110° x 50° or 70° x 50°. ULTRA-X40 will be coupled with 900-LFC elements for the demo sessions.
The ULTRA-X20 brings the performance and features of the ULTRA-X40 to a smaller package. Easily configured for either portable or installed applications, ULTRA-X20 houses dual 5-inch cone drivers, a 2-inch diaphragm compression driver, a three-channel 860-watt peak power amplifier, and a sophisticated DSP in a cabinet measuring just 19.04 x 7.5 x 8.6 inches and weighing a mere 27 pounds. Three versions are available for desired coverage pattern: ULTRA-X20 (110° x 50°), ULTRA-X22 (80° x 50°), and ULTRA-X23 (110° x 110°). Adding propulsive low frequencies to the demo will be the USW-112P compact subwoofer, with its slim cabinet housing a 12” low-distortion, long-excursion driver with linear response across the 35 to 140 Hz range.
Meyer Sound also will have a booth (133) on the convention floor with passive product displays, where company personnel will be on hand to answer questions on technologies and applications.
In addition to serving as a host for the demo sessions, Kent Margraves will be teaching a session entitled “Critical Listening for FOH Engineers” on October 26 at 1 PM. The session will focus on listening skills and ear training for mixers working in worship environments. Though the content is tailored primarily for FOH engineers, the session also will be of value to worship leaders and musicians.
