Audio for Special Events

by | Audio, Facilities, Podcasts, Production

Whether you’re in a small church, medium-sized church, or megachurch, there are extra events that take place in your building throughout the year. How does audio differ for those special events? How do you plan to make them excellent? What’s the most important thing about being the audio tech for all of those events that happen outside of the weekend worship service? Kari Martinez and Michelle Makariak discuss all of these questions and more.

Meet Kari and Michelle

Guest Speaker: Kari Martinez

Kari Martinez recently graduated in 2019 with honors from California State University, Los Angeles with her BA in Mass Communication. Around April 2018, she started to become more involved in church, which led her to volunteer in the AV ministry at Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, CA. As of February 2020, she works full-time as a live audio engineer at Water of Life Community Church in Fontana, CA. Combining her communication skills and her interest in other women and girls in AV, she created a survey which briefly uncovered how females feel about how femininity ties into working in a male-dominated industry. This then led to a second survey done in collaboration with Women in AV (WAVE), which uncovered demographics of women in AV; they sampled 500+ women from all around the world. She now hosts a podcast named Tech Hearts, which is about women in church tech arts. Being curious and cultivating her skills, Martinez enjoys talking to people, being creative, and finding new ways to grow.

Guest Host: Michelle Makariak

Michelle is the Editor-in-Chief of Technologies for Worship Magazine, an educational resource for houses of worship covering all things tech– consumable by volunteers, staff members and leadership alike.
