Alcons Audio Introduces the CRMSQ Modular Line-Source Column Array

by | Audio, Audio Connections, Gear, Production

The Alcons CRMS series welcomes a new benchmark in scalable sound performance with the introduction of the CRMSQ; a modular 2-way column loudspeaker designed for use as a vertical array system. Engineered for superior clarity, intelligibility and room-independent performance, the CRMSQ system redefines what’s possible in high-fidelity sound reproduction in any size performance space, like media rooms, custom installs, studios, a.o.

Combining a natural and dynamic sound reproduction with a patented horizontal constant directivity, the CRMSQ ensures seamless and consistent coverage while significantly reducing the influence of room acoustics. Its symmetrical acoustic design, powered by cutting-edge pro-ribbon HF drivers, expands the “stereo sweet spot,” offering an immersive experience to a broader audience.

At the heart of the CRMSQ’s exceptional performance are two Alcons proprietary 12” RBN1203 drivers, each boasting a peak power handling of 2,000W offering a virtually infinite HF headroom. Mounted in a co-axial speaker configuration alongside four high-output 6.5” woofers with Active Coil™ technology, the system achieves benchmark-setting ultra-low distortion with a very high dynamic capability.

Designed for flexibility and adaptability, the CRMSQ allows for modular expansion to extend the controlled vertical cylindrical projection further into the low frequencies. In larger applications, this control can be further extended by adding separate CRMSQB low-frequency modules, effectively enlarging the LF array length.

Through Alcons Adjustable Azimuth™ the high-frequency section can be manually adjusted in five horizontal steps of 5-degree for optimal projection towards the critical listening area, all while maintaining its ultra-slim 10-inch (25.4 cm) mounting depth.

The CRMSQ is available in two horizontal dispersion options—80-degree (CRMSQ/80) or 110-degree (CRMSQ/110)—and can be ordered as a high-output bi-amp (“bi”) or single-amp (“si”) system; Passive filtering allows up to three CRMSQ-si modules to be powered by a single amplifier channel, making it a highly efficient solution for demanding environments.

Philip “Dr. Phil” de Haan, head of Alcons Audio R&D: “The CRMSQ is arguably the best proof of our “one reference; one experience” philosophy, with its unparalleled combination of power, precision, and adaptability. Based on our modular array technologies of the Q-series, the renowned fidelity of the CRMS-series is now available for even large spaces.

This cross-over system bridges studio monitor analytics with live-sound musicality.”
