First Baptist Owensboro, KY contracted with Paragon 360 for a full-scope renovation project in early January 2023. The main goals were to update the experience in the main sanctuary while maintaining the architectural beauty and improve the online experience. A desire for better connection to the lobby and an overall improved first-time guest experience were also a the top of the list. Paragon enlisted their architectural design partner, Torgerson Design Partners (TDP) for the architectural work. This was only the second renovation of the 100-year-old worship center. Paragon was able to maintain the existing pneumatic organ chambers and pipes and incorporated them into the design.
AUDIO, VIDEO & LIGHTING
Paragon designed and installed new Audio systems that included a NEXO loudspeaker system with Fulcrum subs and JBL front fills. Mixing and personal monitoring was done was done through Allen & Heath. The system included hearing assist systems, wireless IEM’s, custom equipment racks and Paragon’s signature choir monitor system which greatly improved the choir experience.
The video system included (2) new Revelux StoryGlass LED walls with custom surrounds. Also included were new robotic cameras and various production equipment which was part of many improvements and an enlargement of the existing video production booth. The system also included a distributed, digital signage system. Audio for video included another Allen & Heath console and JBL monitoring, separating the online mix from the FOH mix.
The platform LED lighting system included new Chauvet Ovation fixtures with lighting control via a High End Systems Hedge Hog console in addition to ETC relay panels and architectural control button stations. Several new motorized lighting positions were created using standard truss and CM loadstar motors with cable management via Pantograph systems. Custom scenic and architectural elements contained LED lighting by Environmental Lighting. In addition, LED house lighting was designed and installed using Pathway Lighting products.
CUSTOM ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENTS
Paragon’s design team provided interior design for the project and created modifications to the main platform in an effort to provide more usable space within the existing footprint. The project also included Paragon’s signature, custom, illuminated scenic and architectural elements that were used to help modernize the look of the platform and tie elements from the back wall into the main platform. Paragon designed and built custom back wall baptistery surrounds, a Halo lit wooden cross, modesty walls, a front of stage façade and a custom drum enclosure.
ACOUSTICS & SEATING
Paragon also designed and provided acoustical solutions for the space following a comprehensive audio and acoustical analysis that was completed during the design process. As a result, over 4,000 square foot of acoustical material and Fabri-TRAK were installed on the side and back walls above and below the balcony and on the balcony face. The project also included all new seating by Sauder throughout the space. Pews were removed and replaced with individual Sauder Vista theatre seats with pew end caps to help maintain the classic feel in the space. Paragon worked in unison with TDP and Sauder to redesign the entire platform riser system for safety and comfort.”Our experience working with Paragon was absolutely amazing,” said Bob Farmer, Business Administrator for FBC Owensboro. “We were a team.”
