Nexus Christian Fellowship in Bangkok Connects with Allen & Heath

by | Audio, Case Studies, Production

A new worship space in Bangkok for Nexus Christian Fellowship, which has more than 20 locations throughout Thailand, has been equipped with sound reinforcement systems utilizing a pair of Allen & Heath mixing consoles and companion components that are capable of handling modern requirements with the ability to be operated by non-technical users.

The systems, specified and installed by enlisted Sonos Libra, Allen & Heath’s distribution partner in the region, include a 64-channel Avantis console for front of house and a 48-channel SQ-6 console for monitors. The Avantis desk is equipped with a Dante card for the digital split and livestream feed as well as a Waves 3 card for external processing. The customizable Custom Control app is utilized to provide simplified control of the FOH system.

The SQ-6 is deployed with the 12 stereo mixes used to feed the performers’ in-ear monitors, who can also control their mixes via the SQ4You personal mixing app for iOS/Android. The SQ-6 is fitted with a 64 x 64 SQ Dante card that’s used for the digital split to the FOH system as well as providing a feed to the livestream and recording room elsewhere in the church. Onstage I/O is provided by a pair of DX168 audio expanders delivering 32 analog inputs and 16 analog outputs via Allen & Heath’s low-latency 96 kHz DX protocol.

“Houses of worship are not new for us, so we know how important it is that the system delivers high-quality audio for both speech and music,” says Alfonso Martin, CEO of Sonos Libra. “However, our approach to Nexus Church had a twist with the flexibility options added on: a Dante backbone at 96kHz that could be picked up and expanded to any of the other rooms within the building, Custom Control with easy-to-control presets for different functions and days, plus a Waves card for additional processing if required.”

K. Thom, technical manager at the church, adds, “We have a lot of volunteers and non-technical staff who are tasked with handling high-performance systems, so the combination of Avantis, which has the in-depth functions for technical users, with the easy to use Custom Control App is a perfect combination.”

Choir Sound 101: Getting the Most Out of Your Worship Choir

Having worked with dozens of churches and worship teams, I’ve come to realize that a choir is essentially a microcosm of the church itself. Every personality—good, bad, and everything in between—is represented. Some members are joyful, eager to serve, and ready to...
